What We Do

  • HCS Family Services provides programs and services to over 4,500 heads of household and 25,000 low-income families living in Southeast DuPage County including the Villages of Hinsdale, Darien, Burr Ridge, Westmont, Willowbrook, Oak Brook and Clarendon Hills. HCS assists individuals and families by providing assistance to stabilize their situation, and then work with them towards long term solutions of economic self-sufficiency
  • To achieve our goal of moving toward self-sufficiency, we know that it takes a coordinated approach by engaging community partners and pooling resources.
  • HCS is 100% dependent upon the success of fund raising efforts. For every dollar donated to HCS and 86 cents goes directly to our clients.
  • We are also dependent of generous individuals who bring food and paper products to our office. Many of these items are purchased by them for the purpose of giving back to the community.
  • HCS receives generous gifts from grocery stores in the area and from Faith Based contributions. In addition, the Village of Hinsdale has furnished free office space in its Memorial Building for the last 77 years.
  • HCS is committed to providing high quality customer service. Staff and volunteers work daily on improving our service to the people we serve.
  • Our greatest challenge is to keep up with the growing demand for our services. Visits to our pantry have increased 18% over the past four months and we see no relief from this demand. As the Federal Government decrease SNAP (food stamps) benefits and unemployment insurance is cut from the budget, Food Pantries are vital to the existence of the people we serve.
